00:00Introduction and guest background
Right. Are you ready? Yes. All right. Hello everyone and welcome to another inspiring episode. Today we are joined by someone whose story is a powerful reminder that resilience is often born in livestockers' moments. Our guest today is Tim Randall, a professional tattoo artist, painter, entrepreneur, husband, father who has spent more than 30 years using creativity to tell stories and arts. You're welcome to our podcast today. Please could you introduce yourself to our audience?
Yes, hello. I'm Tim Randall. I'm a TBI survivor and professional tattoo and airbrush artist as well as the owner of Mother Mushroom, New Tropics.
Wow! You're welcome to our podcast today. I'm happy to have you here.
Thank you. It's an honor to be here.
Alright. Okay now diving in, take us back to April 2021. What happened that day? And what do you remember about those first weeks after the accidents?
What was the emotional reality of realizing your life had changed so dramatically?
Well, if we take us back to that day, it was just a regular afternoon.
Me and my wife going to have some lunch, and we were T-boned.
And when he hit us his car wedged underneath us
and knocked me out on impact and then flipped us up on two wheels,
basically just ripping my brain apart and shredding everything while I was
unconscious. My wife was driving she managed to get
us back on four wheels when after that we hit a wall and that
Next Impact woke me up and I immediately went into a seizure. Firefighters came and stabilized
me, and I was able to go home but the days following that, I had no idea we're going
to be the way they were it just kind of got worse by the day less brain function, less memory,
less knowing what was going on, less body function. And eventually about three weeks
After the accident, I went and was doing a cover-up tattoo on somebody.
01:55Recognizing pressure around the marriage
And while working, the knowledge of how to make and create art literally just faded away.
And what I was looking at was like hieroglyphs.
I didn't understand how to do it or what I was doing or what to do.
It was probably one of the most terrifying moments in my life.
And I asked the client if I could reschedule.
And I headed to pick up my wife from work feeling very strange and ended up seizuring on the
and the freeway almost crashing. And from then on, it was just a downhill slope for many years of trying to figure out what was going on, what was wrong.
It's a long road with no answers for many years. Definitely one of the biggest struggles in my life.
Wow! That's great. Thank you for the courage of sharing this to me today. Thank you so much for that.
Okay, moving on. You've described living as though every day felt like the movie 51st Date while also dealing with a seizure or some memory loss
During these incredible difficult years what kept you moving forward when giving up would have seemed to be the best option?
Honestly, the hope that things would get better. I didn't want to accept my
Diagnosis. I didn't want to accept that this was all that life was for me
Thank you for sharing that. Okay moving on, after facing sex back in the healthcare system,
03:49Why couples turn against each other
You began exploring other approaches to support your recovery, including the neurofeedback,
lifestyle changes and functional mushrooms.
What did that journey teach you about advocating for yourself?
And what do you hope listeners understand about taking an active role in their own health and
awareness decisions?
Well, honestly all of that is kind of the opposite way of Western medicine and how it's
taken it.
It's less invasive.
The neurofeedback was honestly the best thing I'd ever done.
It had the most benefits, it was also the most expensive but that brought me back from 51st
dates into actually having memory of each day being able to remember what I read, remember
what I'm doing.
It brought me to another level where I could start training and rehabilitating on a better
note.
The mushrooms were the baseline and foundation for all of it.
The neotropics like the lion's mane, the brain mushroom as long as you're consistent
with the right discipline and focus.
05:44In-laws, culture, and competing loyalties
This is powerful, thank you for that. Okay now, you often say that your story isn't about surviving tragedy, it's about refusing to let tragedy decide the rest of your story. Looking back what was the lowest point in your journey and what was the turning point that made you believe recovery was this possible?
The lowest point would probably be after that first serious misdiagnosis where a doctor gave
me the wrong medication and my seizures went from three to five seizures a week to ten a
day or more.
It basically left me unable to speak, unable to walk, unable to function.
07:39Strengthening partnership and communication
Basic things were impossible just figuring out what I wanted to do next why I walked into
a room all of those simple things we take for granted were gone.
That was a lot to take on, that was a lot to absorb.
And it changed my direction of everything and how I, my perspective on life and how we do things.
My wife was definitely my foundation of keeping me strong and pushing me when I fell
and when I was ready to give up she would give me that strength so
a strong community is definitely a huge part of recovery. You gotta have support.
Oh this is great. I must commend. That's good.
Okay moving on, your personal experience led you to create a mother mushroom
turning your own journey into a business that aims to educate and support others
What has it been like building a purpose-driven company?
And how do you balance being an entrepreneur with being an advocate for natural awareness?
It's been wonderful honestly.
My community around me they watched very closely
what happened to me and all the recovery and all this stuff I went through
That's beautiful. My last question for you today is, as you reflect on everything you've overcome, from losing your memory and creativity to rebuilding your life and business, what do you think about the future of life?
09:33Building one united team
What do you hope to live for your family, community and people whose lives you hope to impact?
Quiet the noise outside and focus on what you truly want out of life, what you truly expect to get out of life.
Find your internal answers. The answers are not outward. A lot of your answers are inward.
And if you look inward a lot more success will come from that.
Success in my opinion is more of a mindset than anything.
Money can…is a point of success but a lot of people with money are miserable in their life.
So you have to find that balance of all of the aspects of life
and that is where true success comes, where you find happiness and peace throughout all of your life.
Wow! This is great!
Before we conclude, do you have a website that people can read more about your work
or maybe that people can use and get to you directly?
Yes absolutely! Mothermushroom.com was just released this week
We are live and ready to ship anywhere and everywhere you would like
We have great deals going on
You can also find me, my art and the mushroom company on Facebook
